Interreg Central Europe - CORCAP

Capitalization of TEN-T corridors for regional development and logistics.

Interreg CENTRAL Europe Project

The Interreg CENTRAL Europe project aims to improve coordination between freight transport stakeholders by facilitating alignment between regional interests and EU recommendations on freight transport and regional development. The partners will adapt planning methods to meet the requirements of spatial planning and improve intermodal terminal processes, as well as the requirements of the immediate spatial environment of the terminals. This will enable terminals to better meet the future demands of growing freight traffic flows and organize terminal processes in an environmentally friendly way.
ROSTOCK PORT GmbH, owner and operator of the port infrastructure, is responsible for the general development of the port in addition to construction and maintenance. In this sense, the company cooperates with various international institutions in the Interreg project “CORCAP” (Interreg Central Europe Programme). The focus of this project is the further logistical development of the TEN-T transport corridor “Orient-East-Med” in order to make it fit for growing transport volumes.
The TEN-T Orient/East-Med corridor connects Central and Southeastern Europe. A key bottleneck of increasing relevance is the Dresden-Prague section, which needs to be extended with a new rail line to improve connections between German seaports and destinations in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and Hungary in particular.
Transport hubs such as intermodal terminals and ports and their immediate surroundings are crucial components of intermodal freight transport in Europe. To achieve an environmentally friendly transformation, they must be organized in a coordinated manner, taking into account different transportation scales, modes, and spatial constraints. However, due to capacity constraints caused by planning limitations and communication gaps between different stakeholders, they often struggle to cope with the rapidly growing volume of freight traffic.
CORCAP brochure

ROSTOCK PORT- Feasibility studies for the development of train concepts via the port of Rostock to shift transport from road to rail.

The studies provide an overview of the current and future freight market in the selected study regions, as well as its transport volumes and connections to Scandinavia with a focus on rail-related freight groups. Based on this, the studies include potential train concepts. These show, by using the ferry & RoRo connections between Northern Europe and the Port of Rostock, more environmentally friendly transport chains to important economic regions in Eastern Europe.
