Shifting additional freight volumes from road to rail is essential for the success of the energy and transport transition in Germany.
ROSTOCK PORT is also pushing the expansion of CT connections from the Rostock location. Although not operating as a rail transport company (RU) or operator itself, ROSTOCK PORT initiates transports, carries out preparatory market investigation studies and brings the aforementioned players “to the table” by identifying and bundling potential volumes. Increasing the share of rail in the hinterland traffic of the Port of Rostock reduces the climate gas emissions of the transport chains passing through the site and consolidates Rostock’s role as a rail port.
Combined transport (CT) by rail has been growing steadily for years. In 2022, the handling capacity in CT by rail at the Port of Rostock was 130,000 units, accounting for a share of just under 20% of ferry and RoRo cargo traffic.
