Since its launch in the fall, Hansa Destinations has seen a steady increase in demand from freight forwarders and logistics companies looking to transport goods by sea between Sweden and Germany. Now another RoRo vessel is being put into service, allowing more departures in both directions, more flexibility for transport companies and a doubling of cargo capacity. Start will be at the end of April.

The new vessel M/S Eliana Marino, which will be chartered in from the end of April, will serve the Nynäshamn – Rostock line together with M/S Drotten. The new vessel has 2,500 lane meters and a number of driver cabins. This means that Hansa Destinations will double from three to six sailings per week in both directions between the two ports of Nynäshamn and Rostock.
“We know that daily departures increase flexibility and this has been requested by many carriers. We have seen a gradual increase in demand during the fall and it is fun to now be able to increase capacity further in both directions,” says Håkan Johansson, CEO of Rederi AB Gotland.
The line offers freight operators a more cost-effective transportation alternative. Thanks to increased capacity and more departures, customers now get greater flexibility and the opportunity to better plan their transports. Further rail solutions for hinterland connections are also being worked on intensively with customers in order to complete the offering and further strengthen the Stockholm and Rostock region as Baltic Sea hubs.
“With this investment, we are enabling the shift of larger volumes of goods from land to sea while simplifying processes for our customers,” says Håkan Johansson, CEO of Rederi AB Gotland.
In the mid-summer weeks CW 26 – 32, M/S Drotten, currently operated by Hansa Destinations, will support Gotland traffic with increased capacity, which means that there will be five instead of six departures between Rostock and Nynäshamn during these weeks.
Dr. Gernot Tesch, Managing Director of ROSTOCK PORT GmbH, was also pleased: “After the new Rostock-Nynäshamn/Visby line has already proven to be very interesting for the passenger market since its opening, ROSTOCK PORT is also pleased to note the freight volumes, which have been increasing significantly, particularly since the end of 2021, and which will have an additional impact on the location. With the increase in departure frequency now fixed, entirely new freight products will automatically become possible. ROSTOCK PORT hopes that this increase in frequency and capacity will provide additional impetus for the hub function of the Rostock location and thanks the shipping company Hansa Destinations for its confidence in the logistics attractiveness of the location.”
The updated timetable will soon be published on https://hansadestinations.com/.
