Continuous growth in combined transport
The handling of intermodal loading units in combined transport (CT) at the terminal of the operator Rostock Trimodal GmbH increased significantly to more than 121,000 units (+ 33 percent) in 2021. Currently, 42 intermodal trains run weekly to and from Verona (15) and Bologna (3) in Italy, to and from Bratislava (5) in Slovakia, to and from Dresden (10), Herne (5) and Halle (1) in Germany, to and from Bettembourg (3) in Luxembourg.
“We are pleased that we were able to achieve an extremely positive development in combined transport at the Rostock location again last year and significantly exceed the sound barrier of 100,000 units. This shows us once again how correct and important the focus on combined transport is. With the turn of the year 2021/2022, some customers will again expand their existing connections from Rostock. This shows our customers’ confidence in the performance of the location,” says Dr. Gernot Tesch.
The train to Bratislava, for example, will now run five times a week and once again illustrates the potential on the axis to Southeastern Europe. There are further capacity increases with now ten connections per week between Dresden Alberthafen and the Rostock overseas port. In addition to Verona, Bologna is another Italian rail hub that has been connected.
